All couples experience periods when their relationship becomes strained for different reasons. It's when communication between you breaks down which may mean your defences can go up, differences and misunderstandings can become overwhelming, which in turn can create a distance between you as a couple.
During these times it can be hard to know what to do and difficult to listen to each other with understanding and an open mind.
If you focus on the picture you may be able to see both sides of the picture, an image of a vase and the faces of two people facing each other. As individuals you may both have lost sight of both sides of the picture and not be able to see the other person's point of view.
Couple counselling can provide the space and time for you to focus and explore the challenges and difficulties that have arisen between you. Talking to a skilled counsellor can provide the opportunity to explore feelings that you both may have withheld for different reasons, which may include fear of failure, disrupting the relationship or hoping things will change in time.
These are some examples of the reasons couples come for counselling.
