My approach as a supervisor is to provide a safe space which provides a trusting, collaborative relationship in which you can feel safe enough to explore aspects of the work you may be finding challenging, or feeling unsure about, and to feel confident that I will support you within the boundaries of working ethically.
My aim is to support the whole of your practice, including practical, ethical and the relational processes. Exploring creative ways of working and increasing awareness of what takes place in the work between you and your client can lead to possible change.
Supervision provides a space for you to gain a greater understanding of your work with clients and to support you to feel confident and skilled in your practice. It gives you the opportunity to explore and reflect on your work.
One aspect of the work I am interested in is the parallel process: ie what happens in our relationship can provide an insight into what is happening in the work between you and your client. There is always more to learn, experience and reflect on the work and there are times when we might not yet know what will emerge. As a relational Gestalt supervisor, I work experientially, incorporating creative experiments when required.
Prior to training as a psychotherapist, I trained with Relate and have 25 years’ experience of working with couples. I provide supervision for psychotherapists and counsellors working with couples as well as individuals.
I work with qualified counsellors and psychotherapists and also trainees who are embarking on the process of finding their own style, strengths and direction as practitioners. I meet supervisees on either a fortnightly or monthly basis, either face to face or online. I'm based at the Wellbeing Centre, Chepstow and also work from home in Bristol and Newport.
I am a UKCP-accredited Gestalt supervisor and hold a Post Graduate Diploma in Relational Psychotherapy Supervision awarded by Relational Change. (www.relationalchange.org)
